Open Call for Entries: Real People, Real Recovery
In conjunction with September's annual National Recovery month festivities, the Central Virginia chapter of SAARA (Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Alliance) is presenting "Real People, Real Recovery", a juried art show with two openings on Sept. 5 and Sept. 19, 2008. This show is open to all Virginia artists, professional and nonprofessional, in recovery or not.
This juried show will feature art reflecting on recovery from addictions. One in every ten persons in our country has the disease of addiction, and each addicted person affects many others who may not be addicted to substances. This show will demonstrate the amazing power of the creative spirit to foster freedom from addiction, and that an alcohol and drug-free life is available to all who want it.
Presentation: Two-dimensional and three-dimensional works in all media will be considered. All work must be the original work of the entrant, suitably mounted or framed, with hardware ready for hanging.
Entry procedure: Artists may submit up to two works. Accepted works will hang for three weeks in either the art6 Skylight Gallery or the Crossroads Gallery. Works must be received at art6 or Crossroads Gallery between July 30 and Aug. 1, 2008.
Awards: First place, $150; second place, $100; third place, $50.
Juror: Sally Bowring. A painting instructor at Virginia Commonwealth University represented by Reynolds Gallery in Richmond, Va., her art has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
