art6: a conduit for art experiences, expression and education

Phillip Bowles

Artist's statement

"I discovered comic books at the tender age of six, the first comic being Robocop #1 from the local 7-Eleven. It was clearly love at first sight. Green Hornet, Superman, Batman and X-Men comics soon followed. Elementary and middle school proceeded to fly by in speeds rivaling The Flash, and that was fine by me. I paid enough attention in high school to draw comics and continued to do so in Virginia Commonwealth University’s Communication Arts program, from which I was graduated in December ’06. I joined art6 Gallery in February ’07 and since then have been producing promotional material for the gallery (post cards, posters, etc.), including participating in two members shows."

Art by Phillip Bowles

"My work is influenced by a wide variety of art including classic comic strips, new and old comic books, illustration, film and fine art (20th century in particular.) I constantly strive to maintain a sketchbook, keeps an artist “loose” (think exercising.) I currently work as a graphic designer and produce comics on the side to maintain my sanity. You know, the usual story."
