Vincent Wrenn
At art6 May 2 through June 1, 2008
Vincent Wrenn was born in Memphis, Tenn. in 1954 and currently resides in Asheville, N.C. He studied painting at the University of Memphis, where he was heavily influenced by R. Buckminster Fuller. As a performance artist and musician he was a member of the band Panther Burns. Funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the band performed the first live artist video transmission between galleries.
Wrenn began painting on wood in the 1970s. This work evolved into the current series of partially-painted wood reliefs, which "sometimes use selected geometries such as pi, phi, and the Fibonacci series," according to the artist. Influences on his work include Western alchemy, the art of the Kuba tribe, quantum physics, and microtonal music. He has exhibited throughout the southeast United States.
On May's First Friday opening night, he will present a gallery talk on his work entitled "Alchemy and Art." Following this presentation he will be available for small group talks.
