Artist's statement
This show is about drawing 1000 birds. The show visualizes in drawing and color the principles of matrix perspective and atmospheric color. These principles of color and perspective are the mainstay of art and design. The aim of these principles is to make perceptual the conceptual (how to see color advancing and receeding.)
These drawings (computer and hand generated) will originate from my graphic representation class 2007-08 in the department of graphic design at V.C.U. and also from a selection of instructional drawings I will execute.
These principles will allow for precise control of the picture plane in form and color. These principles are to be understood experientially, so that the artist may personally witness space. This process allows infinite combinations of form and color. This show will express how the artist may begin to think on different levels of complexity.
Matrix perspective, currently being taught in three classes, may be used for visual thinking, color, drawings, and form building. In short, the matrix allows the viewer to experience space as opposed to thinking about it. To define this cubic system, matrix perspective employs variable reference points to create perspective forms.
