Exhibition guidelines

art6 gallery asks that exhibiting artists observe the following guidelines in presenting and hanging their show. The purpose is not to enforce uniformity, but to create a certain aesthetic consistency and an atmosphere of quality and attention to detail. Since there are exceptions to every rule, we recognize that certain of these guidelines may not always apply, depending on the nature of the works exhibited. We ask, however, that if your departure from the guidelines is significant, you discuss it with your art6 liaison before hanging the show. If you seek guidance on hanging the show, feel free to contact the gallery Exhibition Committee.

  1. Each artist is free to display their work as they see fit as long as it does not damage the gallery. However, there are guidelines that must be followed when hanging work. The Responsibilities and Guidelines for Delivery and Removal of Art will be made available to you by our Exhibition Coordinator.

  2. It is the policy of art6 that all galleries shall be used for each show. Any exception to this policy requires approval by the Exhibition Committee.

  3. art6 provides a numbering system for all works. Artists will provide sheets identifying the works: title, date, media, and scale.

  4. Some of the work must be for sale in each show, unless otherwise approved, e.g., for "Special Shows." It is recommended that no less than half of the works be offered for sale. A price list must be available listing all works shown. If certain works are not for sale, "NFS" may be used. If "POR," Price on Request, is used, art6 must be notified of the price for the work prior to the show so that it can respond to a request, if made.

  5. Exhibitors are expected to make artists' information available to visitors. This may be as simple as a resume, with current address and phone number, or as elaborate as a notebook containing artists' statements, reviews, brochures, and lists of other exhibits. art6 can provide a notebook for artists' use in presenting this information.

  6. Each artist is responsible for submitting to the art6 Exhibition Committee Chairperson publicity information and images for art6 to design announcements and invitations.

  7. Each exhibitor will submit an inventory sheet to the art6 Exhibition Committee Chairperson, including insured price of artwork along with sale price.

  8. Each exhibitor shall be given precise dates for his/her show, the date of the opening and the dates for hanging the show and taking it down.

  9. Work may not be removed from the gallery until the end of the show.

  10. art6 is entitled to a commission on sales made as a result of the show, even if they occur after the show. If a purchaser sees a work in the show and decides to purchase it within three (3) months following the show, art6 should receive thirty (30%) percent commission. Any known violation of this policy will result in the artist's losing future exhibition privileges at art6.
